Tony Pierce

Reverend Tony Pierce is co-pastor of Heaven’s View Christian Fellowship church in Peoria, Illinois, and Board President of Illinois People’s Action (IPA).  Reverend Pierce brings a unique perspective and experiences to tackling climate change.

In his capacity as a faith leader in both organizations, he is helping to lead the movement for climate and environmental justice in Illinois and nationally.  Mobilizing his congregation, he created and administers the Heaven’s View Community Development Corporation in a transformational renewable energy training project.  This project, the only such FEJA funded project in downstate Illinois, trains disadvantaged workers into a renewable jobs pipeline in the solar energy sector.

Through his leadership in IPA, he co-chaired the largest Black climate gathering of residents in Peoria to engage the federal EPA director of environmental justice in 2019.  He represents IPA in the statewide Clean Energy Jobs Coalition table, and is a member of its negotiating team with the Governor’s office in creating new state energy policy.

In recognition for his climate leadership, he will be on the national board of People’s Action organizing network, and represented the network at the COP-21 international climate gathering in Paris in 2015.

As an African American faith and community leader, he is committed to Black wealth creation through real and tangible empowerment in the new renewable energy economy.
